Your agent, writing like Paul Graham
Tell Claude Code once. From then on its answers and every prose file it writes come back in the voice you chose, with code, tables and links untouched. Try it with no account: the first 15,000 words are free.
The one-line way
Paste this into Claude Code, Codex or any agent that can read a URL:
Set up Better Writing per https://betterwriting.ai/agents.md and use the Paul Graham voice
The agent reads betterwriting.ai/agents.md, which carries the exact steps below in agent-readable form.
Claude Code
Install the plugin, then pick the voice:
claude plugin marketplace add dsiroker/betterwriting-agent && claude plugin install betterwriting@betterwriting-agent /voice pg
On first use the plugin fetches a trial key (15,000 words, 300 rewrites, no sign-up) and keeps it in ~/.betterwriting/config.json. Two hooks do the work: responses are rewritten as they display, and Write or Edit calls on prose files (.md, .mdx, .txt, .rst, anything under docs/) are rewritten before they land. CLAUDE.md, AGENTS.md, lock files and any file whose frontmatter says betterwriting: off are left alone.
| Command | Effect |
|---|---|
/voice pg | Use the Paul Graham voice. |
/voice off, /voice on | Pause or resume everything. |
/voice responses off | Leave chat responses alone; keep rewriting files. |
/voice artifacts off | Leave files alone; keep rewriting responses. |
/voice login <key> | Switch from the trial to a key from /keys. |
/voice status | Voice, quota left, what is on. |
When the trial runs out, the plugin appends one line to a response ("Better Writing trial used up. Keep going: betterwriting.ai/keys") and otherwise shows your agent's original text. Nothing ever blocks.
Codex
Codex has no hook for displayed responses, so Codex support is artifacts only: a PostToolUse hook on apply_patch rewrites the prose files it touched, on disk. The plugin repo's README has the ~/.codex/hooks.json snippet.
Any other agent
Two calls, documented in the API reference: POST /api/v1/trial for a key, then POST /api/v1/rewrite with mode: "markdown". The server splits the document, rewrites each paragraph and list item of twelve words or more in parallel, and reassembles the rest byte for byte.
What it costs
The trial is free. After that, a free account key from /keys gives fifty rewrites and twenty thousand words a day. Sign in on /keys and claim your trial key to see what it used.
